Molly’s Crossing

A short animated horror film made over the course of about 6 months. The film features actors Sophie Steele and Tessa Williams, plus music by Eric Thomas Brown. Here is some of the development work.

ANIMATIC

Here’s the edit I put together with some rough boards and temp VO and music. Some moments changed quite a bit, and then the whole thing was elevated by the actors and original music.

Boards were done in ToonBoom Storyboard Pro, and the edit was assembled in Adobe Premiere.

LOOK DEV

Here were some of my early passes at the girls in the car, trying to find the right combo of spooky nighttime car interior without adding too many details to animate.

Edlyn Capulong helped me with some visdev for the characters, especially Quinne, who I struggled to conceptualize. Here’s a row of her designs plus a page of my own based on her ideas.

COLOR SCRIPT

I stayed mostly faithful to these choices, with some added fog and light bleed here and there. This color script was meant to be extremely simple while maintaining evocative lighting choices. Easy to animate, but still impactful.
